OK...Here we go!!! I have 3 days until we pick up our new edition to the family. Never had a English Mastiff before and we are very keen to do the right thing and give the best upbringing. I have been reading posts in these forums all morning and I am finding it extremely helpful.

I think we are ready for this as far as toys, bed etc...but I am struggling with finding the right food...I have read Bill's list and I find that confusing too...lol.
I brought some Nutro Natures Choice at Petsmart yesterday and I am being told a big fat NO on that brand...
So, its back to the drawing board...

Food pretty much confuses all of us so don't feel to bad
Just keep asking questions and you will find one that suits your needs

go to www.dogstardaily.com and for free, download "before getting your puppy" and for $7.50 download "after getting your puppy" and read lots of stuff on the site.

if you have children, get "living with kids and dogs...without losing your mind" by colleen pelar. if i was a breeder, i wouldn't sell a puppy to anyone with children unless they had read it and passed a test

MOST IMPORTANT!!! bite inhibition. if you and everyone in your home starts this the instant puppy comes thru your door, it will be easy and you won't have a land shark to deal with and trust me, i had a boarder who bit my legs, wouldn't let go and it was horrible and there have been a few people on the list who have had really snarky puppies.

have you started looking for a puppy k?

did you buy him a harness for walking?

do you know why you shouldn't use his food bowl?

i'm the behavior lunatic/paranoid because i hear about all the bad stuff and i do some on referral from the vet training so i get all the problem dogs.

everyone worries about food...i worry about socialization - do you know how to socialize him?

and most of all...have fun!

I do know how to socialize him...and i think I have everything else pretty much under control...except for the food...

Food was really tricky for me too. It was trial and error for us. It seemed like everything we tried gave him horrible gas. He is now on Fromm food and is doing really well on it. He no longer clears the room which makes us all happier!

LOL...Cant wait for all the 'gas'...NOT!!!...:p
