I guess when you click on "View posts since last visit" it is a search function. How come the number listed there and the number of search results always differ by a great amount and the search results are always lower? For example, right now it said "View posts since last visit (684)" but when I click on it, it says "Search found 135 matches". Were the other 549 ones I just didnt need to read?? :D

My guess would be when you click the "view posts since...", the search results # is the number of threads (or topics) that contain new posts, whereas the posts since last visit number is just what it says...every new post

Exactly. The search returns the number of threads with new posts, but some threads have multiple new posts and it doesn't count them. The "view posts since last visit" counts ALL new posts even multiple ones in single threads.
