My mastiff Romeo will be 1 year old next month. I have been feeding him Eagle Pack Large Breed Puppy Food. At what age should I switch him to an adult food? He seems to be having a growing spurt again and is starting to look a bit thin. I feed him 5-6 cups twice a day. Also, any suggestions on a good adult food to switch to?
Thanks!!

Giant breeds like mastiffs do not need puppy chow. Check some of the better feeds in Bill's list and start the switch now.

You can switch anytime you are ready Smile
Nova was weaned to an adult food and has remained on an adult food his entire life and has grown very well.
We currently feed Fromm but there are many great brands out there.
I printed out Bill's top foods list and spent a Saturday finding out what I could get in my area and at what price and found several that fit my budget

I think we migrated Camo to adult food when he was 10 or 11 weeks old. We gave him a couple weeks of being home before we moved him to adult food and he's done great. I did have him on Natures Variety Pairie, but I'm in the process of transitioning him to Natures Domain which is the Costco brand of Taste of the Wild, and he really likes it.

This food is actually ok for mastiff puppies. I researched it before I got Meeko and decided on it. He will stay on it until he is 18 months or so. I think this is the only puppy food that is recommended though assuming it is the Holistic Select large and "giant" breed formula. I am not sure if they make just a large breed formula.

yep. our vet said that mastiffs don't need puppy chow...
in fact, henry got really nasty growing pains because, according to the vet, his diet was too nutritious and it was making him grow too quickly... so we had to switch to a cheaper brand of (adult) food.

Thanks again! I did switch Romeo first to Fromm's and now to Blue Buffalo. I must be really picky because he doesn't like either. I've mixed in yogurt, boiled chicken even canned ravioli's. He can pick out the good stuff but leaves the dog food. Wish I knew what dog food TASTES best!!!!!
